Second Timothy carries Paul’s tender final charge to Timothy: guard the word, endure hardship, and keep the faith. The song remembers Jesus Christ risen from the dead and declares that God’s word cannot be chained, even when its messenger is imprisoned. Paul’s approaching death gives urgency to the call. It encourages the listener to carry the flame onward with courage and love.
